Costa Rica El Conquistador Terrazu 400g
Roast Details Full City (Medium) | Costa Rica
Roasting Notes
Charge temp: 180
Unintentional Soak at 20% for 1 min so had to catch up to planned BT curve.
Drum: 70%(seems to work better than 80%)
Beans looks good - no scorching or tipping. Drop temp was 2* lower than planned but roast time longer than planned due to insufficient heat throughout the roast.
First time roasting with background profile on. Got distracted and wasn't watching the proper BT line some of the time so resulted in lower than intended heat throughout the roast and some erratic heat management later in the roast. Times to DE, FC, and Drop were longer than planned due to insufficient heat but still in a good range. RoR was a too low coming into FC so had to bump the power to keep it from stalling after FC.
Next roast: Charge at 180, power 80% to get RoR higher in the beginning a to keep better momentum going into FC, Drop temp 210* and see how that effects flavor. Keep DE and FC times similar if possible and DT will be longer with higher Drop temp.
Cupping Notes
Coffee came out good; very clean cup. Nice sweetness and mild acidity. No real citrus or berry notes(that i could pick up on) but good flavors of sugar syrups and carmels. Taking it a few degrees darker will hopefully increase those notes and maybe bump up the acidity a bit. See next roast(hopefully) for results of that.
